Wellness Care: Because prevention truly is the best medicine

We are honored to take care of many pets throughout their life spans. A critical factor in your pet having a long and healthy life is an annual wellness exam. As with human medicine, early detection of problems and/or diseases is key. A wellness exam is a nose-to-tail assessment, including temperature, teeth, eyes, heart, lungs, abdomen – limbs and any lumps and bumps. We ask about nutrition, behavior and listen carefully to your concerns, and encourage you to ask questions. Wellness exam guidelines:

  • All pets should have an annual exam
  • Dogs age 7 and older and cats age 9 and older should have exams twice a year

Puppy and Kitten Care

Is there anything more adorable than a puppy or kitten? We discuss proper care and nutrition during their first visit. Vaccinations are critical to the overall health of your pet; we give these over three visits between 8-12 weeks old. We also test for intestinal parasites. At 4 months old, your pet can receive a rabies vaccination.

Spay and Neuter

The fertility rate of cats and dogs is astronomical, and sadly, way too many animals are euthanized at overflowing shelters. Please spay or neuter your pet; it’s the humane thing to do.

These simple surgical procedures do require anesthesia so we perform blood tests prior to surgery to assure safer outcomes.

Nutrition and Wellness

Nutrition and wellness products will help maintain your pet’s health. Prescription dry and canned dog and cat food from Purina and Royal Canin to help manage diabetes, dental care, skin diseases, stomach and intestinal problems, weight management and urinary and kidney diseases.

Heartworm Prevention

Heartworm disease is a serious, potentially life-threatening illness. Consistent use of preventatives can prevent heartworm infection. Although curable, the treatment is costly, requiring multiple treatments over a period of months.

Heartworm prevention requires a prescription and a negative heartworm test within the last 12 months. Learn more:

A microchip id is the best thing you can do to assure recognition if your pet is lost. We use the HomeAgain® microchip implant, the size of a rice grain. It’s implanted under your pet’s skin with a syringe, and it’s virtually pain free. Once implanted, the chip’s unique serial number can be scanned easily. Our practice, other vet practices and many shelters have scanners, so your pet can be traced and returned.
