24 Hour Critical and Intensive Care |
|
Continuity of CareBecause our facility encompasses both a primary pet care hospital and a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital, we can provide a round-the-clock continuity of care that is unique in the Western Carolinas. That’s especially important for our critical and intensive care patients. Our veterinary professionals are on site 24/7/365, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for even the most challenging situations.
Intensive Care UnitWe have a dedicated ICU area for the treatment and monitoring of critically ill and post-operative patients. Each ICU kennel can be supplied with intravenous pumps and with oxygen drops for respiratory support. The ICU is located adjacent to the primary treatment area, with large windows allowing constant monitoring by our medical team. Video equipment also enables remote monitoring of the ICU. We have plenty of room for you to visit your pet and, in fact, encourage it. Experience shows that patients tend to stress less and heal better when they know “their people” are helping them through a traumatic situation. Visiting hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. We ask that you call before coming to be sure we don’t have other medical procedures under way that would curtail your visit.
Isolation Ward
Our Isolation Ward is used for pets with highly contagious diseases that could potentially infect other patients. The Isolation Ward has a separate outside entrance and uses separate heating/air and ventilation systems to prevent mixing of air with the rest of the hospital. Kennels in our Isolation Ward contain the same amenities as our ICU: oxygen drops, IV pumps, patient monitoring equipment and video monitoring equipment. Video of patients in our Isolation Ward is displayed at all times on a monitor in the Treatment Area hub of the hospital, which is monitored by the nurses and veterinarians on duty.
