  FRED ROSEN, DVM

Dr. Rosen graduated from the University of Missouri in 1976 with a degree in wildlife biology. He then worked for the University of Missouri as a research assistant for the department of medicine. During his tenure with the university, he became the head research specialist for the division of nephrology.

In 1989 Dr. Rosen graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine magna cum laude. He worked at several veterinary hospitals throughout the South until 1993. He built and operated Reidville Road Animal Hospital in Spartanburg, SC, until its sale in 2006.

During his 13 years at Reidville Road, Dr. Rosen and his wife PJ co-founded the Alive and Well Animal Rescue Center in Spartanburg County, SC; helped start a free veterinary clinic for those in need in Piedras Negras, Mexico; was on the board of directors of the Spartanburg Humane Society; worked for a Thailand Volunteer Veterinary “MASH” Unit immediately post tsunami; and taught anesthesia to veterinarians in Thailand a year later.

Dr. Rosen is currently one of the two owners of Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital and Veterinary Emergency Hospital. He and his wife live in Columbus, NC.

His special interests include whitewater kayaking, camping, woodworking, traveling, and playing the banjo.

 

Ted H. Owen, DVM

Dr. Ted H. Owen received his veterinary degree from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. After graduation, he worked for a year in the upstate of South Carolina. He then moved to Madison County, NC, where he practiced as a large and small animal veterinarian for five years. After selling his practice, he moved back to the South Carolina upstate where he began practicing emergency and critical care medicine and surgery, first in Greenville and then in Spartanburg. While practicing in Spartanburg, Dr. Owen also worked as an adjunct instructor at Spartanburg Community College where he taught biology and anatomy and physiology.

Dr. Owen is currently one of the two owners of the hospital and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.

He has a special interest in Appalachian fiddle music. He plays fiddle and guitar in the contra dance band “Local Produce.” He is also a whitewater kayaking enthusiast.

Leslie Brown, DVM
(associate veterinarian) 

Dr. Leslie Brown received her BA in English from Tulane University and her DVM from Louisiana State University. Prior to receiving her DVM degree, Dr. Brown worked as a research parasitologist in China, discovering new treatment methods for schistosomiasis in water buffalo.

Her passion lies in the private practice setting, enjoying clients, their pets, and offering compassionate care in approaching disease. Her medical interests include dermatology, surgery, and neo-natal care.

As a native of New Orleans, Dr. Brown is a skilled chef. In her spare time, she goes to Tennessee where she loves to prepare wild game, the Louisiana way, for Sid and Cole Fannon Inc. She also has an interest in barbecue and is slowly perfecting her own dry rubs. Dr. Brown has two children, three dogs, two guinea pigs, one rabbit, one bearded dragon, and yard chickens.

Jennifer McKee, DVM

(consulting acupuncturist)


Dr. Jennifer McKee received her DVM from Oklahoma State University. After moving with her husband to Hendersonville, NC, she worked as an associate in a local animal hospital treating small animals and horses, and became the owner of the equine practice in November, 2008. She is certified in veterinary medical acupuncture and is a valuable addition to our staff at WCRAH.

Dr. McKee is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners, and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Her veterinary interests include equine sports medicine, reproduction, ophthalmology and acupuncture.

In her free time, Dr. McKee enjoys camping, kayaking, biking, swimming, and spending time with her husband, Patrick McKee, DVM, and their two children, two horses, and three dogs. She is also a very loyal fan of LSU. Geaux Tigers!!
